This giant bamboo from China is the fastest growing grass in the world, capable of growing three to four feet in a single day.
The base of the lamp has an internal fiberglass base for support and the bamboo has been sanded and finished and the annular growth nodes have been accentuated with a wood burning tool.
The table and base are made of African Padauk wood. The bamboo shaft was cut in two to allow a tight fit of the bamboo shaft within the table. The bamboo nodes are expanded areas which prevent simply sliding the table down the shaft.
Green growth below the lampshade is suggested by the inclusion of a ten pound piece of British Columbian jade which was specially cut from a twenty-eight pound slab of jade. This piece was shaped to be identical to the cross-section of the bamboo shaft.
